The recipient must install this app before receiving encrypted SMS.

OTR stands for Off-the-Record. It provides not only strong encryption, but also deniability. Using OtrSMS, users can communicate with their friends by sending SMS just like chatting in a private environment. No one will be able to monitor the conversation content.

The operations are quite similar to normal SMS applications, so users will find it's very handy. The main difference is that users need to enter a password for a new OTR contact. The recipient must enter the same one. This password is just used to facilitate key establishment process.

The encrypted text length will be average 1.3 to 1.4 times the original text length.

*Note: All the SMS sent before the new OTR contact's response are sent in clear, without encryption. Although the UI is only in English at the moment, it can send SMS in any language.
